Tour the Johnson Victrola Museum Online

360 degree panorama graphic

In 1967, a memorial to E.R. Johnson was created by the inventor's family and the State of Delaware. To quote Johnson's son, E.R. Fenimore Johnson, "My father was a Dover boy...and was born in Wilmington...I have decided to create a memorial to my father. The form of the memorial will be a museum section displaying talking machines, records, other relics of the Victor Talking Machine Company of Eldridge R. Johnson Manufacturing Machinist, and of such competitive products as may be needed to portray the mechanical talking machines era...By his inventive and business genius he made it possible for the first time in the world's history for good music to be heard in even the most humble home." Today, with the family's blessing, the museum has assembled an extensive holding including Johnson's personal collection and many subsequent additions.
