The Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs is currently seeking qualified applicants for the following positions:

Archaeologist (classified as cultural preservation specialist)
Application opening date: Jan. 22, 2021. Closing date: Feb. 28, 2021

Based in the State Historic Preservation Office located at 21 The Green in Dover, Del., the archaeologist will assist the agency in its protection of the state’s archaeological resources. The position’s primary duties include: consulting with federal, state and local agencies and applicants concerning the effects of their projects on historic properties; reviewing archaeological work involving the identification, evaluation and treatment of sites; and participating in public outreach activities. Applicants must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards in archaeology, and have knowledge of Delaware and regional history and archaeology.

This is a full-time, permanent merit position with the State of Delaware, supported by federal funds. The position is classified as a cultural preservation specialist, which encompasses archaeologists, architectural historians and historians. Note that the State’s classification describes core functions that are common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. This position will carry out duties of an archaeologist with a focus on project review.

Museum/Historic Site Interpreter
Application opening date: Feb. 10, 2021. Closing date: March 10, 2021

Based at the New Castle Court House Museum located at 211 Delaware St. in New Castle, Del., the full-time position of museum historic-site interpreter is responsible for conducting tours and special programming, and providing in-depth information about Delaware’s first court and state capitol which was built in 1732.
