Maintenance Position

We are looking volunteers who work well within a team and are able to assist staff with general maintenance and up-keep of facilities. Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and ability to perform active work, which may include lifting and use of equipment and tools is necessary. An interest and/or background in maintenance trades is a plus!

All sites throughout the state of Delaware.

We will work as best as we can to accommodate the volunteer’s schedule, however our schedule is limited to the time in which projects need to be completed, and our operating hours, as well as weather dependent.

Activities and Responsibilities

  • Aid the on-site staff.
  • Support maintenance staff with various routine day-to-day and one-time projects, which may include painting, repairs, and construction.
  • Other opportunities which have been discussed, assigned, and agreed upon between the volunteer and the site supervisor.

Other Requirements

Any volunteer sixteen (16) years of age or under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for the duration of the volunteer project. All potential volunteers are required to complete a volunteer application.

Volunteers will report to the on site supervisor and to the Volunteer Services Coordinator.

Active volunteers are invited to attend an annual recognition event in which individuals will be recognized for the valuable work and contribution. Recognition items and certificated will be awarded based on hours contributed throughout the year.

Working Conditions

This volunteer opportunity may require long periods of time standing or on your feet, heavy lifting, use of equipment and/or tools, and outdoor work. Projects that require outdoor work may be weather contingent. Volunteers will be provided with supplies and equipment necessary to complete the project assigned. Volunteers will be briefed on any equipment and/or tools that are unfamiliar. Volunteers are not expected to operate equipment if uncomfortable or unsure about proper handling. Volunteer’s safety is our first priority.
