Building Community: Immigrants in Early 20th-Century New Castle

November 7 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Free

During the early 20th century, many immigrants settled in New Castle to join local industries and start their own businesses. At its peak in 1920, the foreign-born population made up 10% of the population of New Castle. Immigrants made invaluable contributions to the community, from their involvement in local politics to their work in businesses that feature heavily in the memories of residents.

This walking tour will explore some of the sites where immigrants in New Castle lived and worked.

The tour will last approximately two hours and will cover 1.5 miles. Much of the walking path is made up of uneven brick sidewalks. Please dress appropriately for the weather and prepare for two hours of walking and standing. The tour will remain within Historic New Castle, so public restrooms will be within two blocks of the tour path at all times.

To register for a walking tour, please email ncchmuseum@delaware.gov with your name and the size of your party. Registration is FREE, but it is limited and first come, first served. You may join a tour on the day without registering, as long as there is still availability.

If a tour must be cancelled to weather or any other reason, we will reach out to registrants as soon as possible.
