Historic New Castle celebrates Separation Day

Dozens of Delawareans and visitors to Historic New Castle, including Delaware Governor Matt Meyer, Secretary of State Charuni Patibanda-Sanchez and staff from the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs (HCA), recently celebrated the 249th anniversary of Separation Day.

Arguably one of the longest-running traditions in the state, the event celebrates the First State’s independence from Pennsylvania and Britain.
The two-day event was held June 6 and June 7, and luckily, the rain held off for the parade. The New Castle Court House Museum hosted the First Delaware Regiment due to weather concerns. HCA’s Christopher Merrill and Christian Reith once again participated in the parade, representing the Citizen Hose Band.
