Three Forts, One Community Exhibit

This exhibit highlights the cultural and social impacts the Swedish, Dutch and English settlements had on the present day town of New Castle. Also highlighted is the trade and relationships they had with the local Lenni Lenape tribes including an interactive table with popular trade goods such as beaver fur.

The Path to Freedom: A History of the Underground Railroad in Delaware Exhibit


An exhibit telling the harrowing story of one family’s escape to freedom on the Underground Railroad. Learn about the family and the challenges they, and many other runaways, faced. Explore the lives of famous abolitionists and the consequences they faced for helping runaway slaves.

A Day In Old New Castle

3rd Saturday in May, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Historic New Castle House and Garden, the oldest house and garden tour in the nation currently in its 90th decade. June

Separation Day

2nd Friday & Saturday in June. Friday 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. & Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Annual celebration of the birthday of the Delaware State and separation from Great Britain and Pennsylvania. Friday night features food, bands and craft beer festival. Saturday’s day into night celebration features a parade, music, food, rides, encampments, community booths, arts and crafts and entertainments on Battery Park. River Towns Ride and Festival

1st Saturday in October, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Annual bicycle race and craft brew festivals in the historic towns of New Castle and Delaware City. Both towns featuring food, bands, craft beers, family entertainments and craft vendors. Free shuttle between both towns. For more information www.rivertownsfestival.com

William Penn Day

4th Saturday in October, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Celebrating the landing of William Penn in New Castle in 1682 and receiving the Delaware counties as part of Pennsylvania. Reenactments, music, historical theater, tours and evening Baroque music concert. For more information call 302-323-4453.

Spirit of Christmas in New Castle

2nd Saturday in December, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
