Save the date! Delaware historic sites full of events for Fall 2025

From a “History Revival” to informative and adventurous hikes to history-making spaces, Delaware’s museums and historic sites boast a full slate of events for all ages to enjoy as summer winds down and fall sets in. Get out those calendars and save the date for opportunities to make First State history your own.

August

Dog Days of Summer: Visit Historic New Castle for a summertime outdoor movie after sunset on Saturday, Aug. 16.

History Revival: On select Tuesdays and Thursdays in August, the New Castle Court House Museum will host a series of speakers reflecting on the history of sports in the First State. Events start at 7 p.m.

Walking Tours: Adventures upstate and downstate include walking tours of the Green in Old New Castle as well as to the DeBraak shipwreck from Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes. Tours take place on Thursdays, Fridays and one Saturday.

September

African Burial Ground guided visitation: Learn more about the complex history of a burial site discovered at the John Dickinson Plantation during a walking tour on Saturday, Sept. 20. Reservations are required.

Brown v. Board of Education history: Learn about the legal battle to end segregation during a presentation at the New Castle Court House Museum on Saturday, Sept. 27.

Celebrate National Estuaries Day: Hike from the St. Jones Reserve to the John Dickinson Plantation and back while learning about the natural and cultural history of the area.

Walking Tours: Get adventurous with a walking tour to the DeBraak shipwreck from Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes.

Picnic at Cooch’s Bridge Historic Site: Join the Friends of Cooch’s Bridge Historic Site as a “Founding Friend” to celebrate the organization’s fifth anniversary. The event will feature great food, exclusive programs and the opportunity to get a sneak peek at Delaware’s sixth state museum before it fully opens in 2027. Registration is required, as is status as a “Founding Friend.” Not a Founding Friend yet? A donation of any size leads to membership in this group supporting the Cooch’s Bridge Historic Site. October

Mysteries of History Walking Tours: Explore the darker and more unusual history of Lewes with this spooky walking tour! Participants will wind through downtown Lewes while Zwaanendael interpreters share stories of shipwrecks, mysterious disappearances and much more during multiple tours held in October.

William Penn Day will take place on Saturday, Oct. 25. The New Castle Court House Museum is hosting tours during William Penn Day, with historical interpreters on hand to answer questions and talk about William Penn’s connection to New Castle and the Court House. Special events are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

November

Pride Market on The New Castle Green is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 1. Check back soon for more information.

A Halloween-inspired seasonal craft activity at Zwaanendael Museum is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1. All materials will be provided.
