Buena Vista opens its doors to celebrate spring

Buena Vista opened to the public Saturday, May 14, for a one-day-only affair showcasing one of Delaware’s most historic estates. Dozens of people of all ages enjoyed roaming the grounds and taking in the spring garden.

Sunshine Plein Air Artists led a landscape painting session, while the Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs supplied the canvas and paints needed to get crafty. Other visitors who preferred a more instant outcome brought cameras to capture the glories of spring blooms throughout the expansive gardens.

Local volunteers were on hand to share knowledge about these beautiful birds and their habitat on the grounds. A handful of visitors participated in a craft project building bluebird boxes, which will be placed on Delaware historic properties.

Guided tours of the historic mansion and gorgeous gardens were reserved in advance and filled with attentive guests, with the paved trail that crosses Buena Vista’s agricultural fields and natural areas becoming a popular place for visitors to soak in the panoramic view of the property.
