Collections Position
Qualifications
We are looking for a self-motivated, outgoing volunteer who works well within a team and is able to complete assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner. Knowledge and passion for history is a plus! Must be reliable, flexible, willing to learn, and attentive to detail. Ability to use a computer, learn proper techniques when handling collection items, and write or adhere small numbers on collection pieces may be necessary.
Sites
CARE Facilities located in Dover, DE.
Timeframe
We will work as best as we can to accommodate the volunteer’s schedule, however our schedule is limited to the time in which our facilities are opened, staffed, and operating. Please check with the Volunteer Services Coordinator for specific hours of operation.
Activities and Responsibilities
- Assist staff with processing, cataloging, and researching collections.
- Handle collections with care according to Historical and Cultural Affairs’standards.
- Ability to follow protocol.
- Stay informed about services, schedule, and activities.
- Assist with special projects and or events.
- General cleaning and housekeeping.
- Other opportunities which have been discussed, assigned, and agreed upon between the volunteer and the site supervisor.
Other Requirements
Must be at least 17 years of age. All potential volunteers are required to complete a volunteer application.
Supervision
Volunteers will report to the on site supervisor and to the Volunteer Services Coordinator.

Working Conditions
This volunteer opportunity may require periods of time standing. Some work may require the use of a computer system. The majority of this work is indoors, and all curatorial facilities are environmentally controlled.
