Division welcomes Curator of Collections Elizabeth Coulter
On July 6, 2020, the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs welcomed Elizabeth Coulter as its new curator of collections. A member of the Collections, Affiliates, Research and Exhibits (CARE) Team based at the agency’s Center for Material Culture in Dover, Coulter will take a leadership role in the curation, management and interpretation of the State of Delaware’s wide-ranging collection of materials made in the First State or used by Delawareans throughout history. She succeeds Ann Baker Horsey who retired on April 30, 2020.
As part of her responsibilities, Coulter will participate with division staff in developing and installing exhibits, developing and presenting educational programs, providing access to the collections, collaborating with partnering organizations and expanding the profile and use of the collections.
A native of Flanders, N.J., Coulter holds a bachelor’s degree in art history and American studies from Rutgers University and a master’s degree in decorative arts history from George Mason University and the Smithsonian Associates. Prior to joining the division, she served as the associate curator of education and the Dale Montgomery Fellow at the Cornell Fine Arts Museum in Winter Park, Fla., and as the collection assistant for the Macculloch Hall Historical Museum in Morristown, N.J. During her career, she has curated exhibitions, led educational programming and lectured on a wide variety of topics including paintings, sculptures, glass, furniture and other decorative arts.
Currently residing in Middletown, Del., Coulter is looking forward to preserving the history of the First State and making the collections more accessible to Delawareans.
