Delaware History Day program to highlight ‘Revolution, Reaction, Reform’

By Rebecca Fay, Delaware Historical Society’s director of education

Starting this fall, Delaware students will be exploring the ideas of revolution, reaction and reform throughout history through the Delaware Historical Society’s annual Delaware History Day program.

Delaware History Day is a statewide, year-long interdisciplinary program focused on historical research, interpretation and creative expression for students in grades 6-12. By participating in Delaware History Day, students become writers, filmmakers, web designers, playwrights and artists, creating unique contemporary expressions of history as they hone 21st-century college and career skills.

Each year, students across the state, encouraged and supported by their teachers, choose historical topics related to a theme and conduct extensive primary and secondary research through libraries, archives, museums, oral history interviews and historic sites. After analyzing and interpreting their sources and drawing conclusions about their topics’ significance in history, students present their work in original papers, websites, exhibits, performances and documentaries.

This upcoming school year, students will choose topics related to the theme “Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History.” All Delaware students in grades 6-12 are eligible to participate.
