All aboard! Zwaanendael aims to highlight Breakwater lighthouse, waterside tours

Staff with the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs recently went waterside and took a trip to the Delaware Breakwater Lighthouse to explore a new possible partnership.
A collaborative relationship with Cape Water Tours is offering the Zwaanendael Museum an opportunity to expand its maritime focus by discussing the Breakwater lighthouse even more than is done today. The Delaware Breakwater East End Lighthouse off the Lewes coast was originally built in 1885, and was equipped with lights to warn mariners of dangerous shoals off Cape Henlopen, according to Delaware Public Archives.
In the future, this collaboration may lead to tours of the lighthouse or canal, historic programming by boat or simply collaborating on research projects that can help inform visitors about the area’s unique waterway connections.
For now, history lovers can benefit as well! Cape Water Tours has created a promo code for Zwaanendael Museum visitors. Using the code “DeBraak,” visitors can save $5 off their total toward a Cape Water Tours East End Lighthouse tour or Sunset at the Lighthouse tour. Anyone attending a Saturday morning tour will also be encouraged to check out Zwaanendael’s DeBraak tour later in the day.
