Rainy weather sets mood for this year’s Make A Splash
This year’s Make a Splash field trip program at John Dickinson Plantation was set to a backdrop of light rain throughout the day, perfect for the 600 visiting fourth graders and their teachers and chaperones to learn about the historical and environmental importance of water.
Programs included a simulated dig where students sifted and cleaned artifacts from a real archaeological site, musket firing and blacksmithing demonstrations, a game where students learned how rescues at sea were conducted during the 1700s, a fishing activity and historic firefighting game. HCA staff from the Zwaanendael Museum, Old State House and New Castle Court House Museum were joined by community partners including St. Jones Reserve, Delaware State Parks, the National Park Service, First State Heritage Park, the Lewes Historical Society and the Fort Miles Museum.
