HCA joins Flavor Flav at local music, culture fest
The Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs (HCA) recently participated in the second annual Hip Hop Cultural Summit featuring Flavor Flav, along with HCA’s own Vertie Lee, Dan Citron and Francisco Rodriguez representing the Johnson Victrola Museum.
The event held at the Delaware Art Museum in late October is described by organizers as a “free family-friendly event” that celebrates hip hop music’s “role in social justice, change, and civic engagement.” This year’s celebrations included a Q&A with special guest and hip hop artist Flavor Flav, a photography exhibition and showcase of local artists, as well as a panel with Vertie Lee, HCA’s curator of education, and “Grouchy” Greg Watkins, founder of AllHipHop.com, speaking about Eldridge Reeves Johnson and his impact on the early recording industry. The Johnson Victrola Museum offered another local historical connection for the summit, through a special exhibition celebrating the invention of the record player.
Exhibitions from the summit will be on display at the Delaware Art Museum through Jan. 5, 2025.
This year’s summit was presented by AllHipHop, Guerrilla Republik and the Delaware Art Museum and was sponsored by HCA, the Center for Interventional Pain & Spine, Roberto Clemente Baseball League and New Castle County, with support provided by PK Construction.
