Senator Chris Coons visits New Castle Court House with Ambassador to Australia Caroline Kennedy
U.S. Senator Chris Coons (D-Delaware) visited the New Castle Court House Museum with Ambassador to Australia Caroline Kennedy and White House National Security Communication Advisor John Kirby on Saturday, Sept. 21. They were in the area for President Biden’s final Quad Summit in Wilmington and Kennedy was interested in seeing and learning about a piece of Delaware history.
With the assistance of the First State National Historic Park, Kennedy, Coons and Kirby toured the New Castle Court House Museum as well as the National Park’s Visitor Center at the historic Sheriff’s House on the New Castle Green. The group was also able to visit the local New Castle Market and walk down to the waterfront to see the Nao Trinidad, a replica of a flagship for Magellan’s expedition that traveled the world from 1519 to 1522, that was docked in the area during that weekend.
The group’s tour of the New Castle Court House Museum was led by Site Supervisor Juliette Wurm and assisted by various historic interpreters (Blaise Glowiak is pictured above in photos from the U.S. Embassy Australia’s Instagram page). The Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs staff were glad to welcome Coons, Kennedy and Kirby to learn about Delaware’s history in the place that it happened and open our doors to our other sites to them for future visits.
