The Delaware State Employees’ Charitable Campaign (SECC) offers state employees the opportunity to support organizations that provide services benefitting the health and welfare of residents of the State of Delaware through unique, fun and creative ways that involve staff in fundraising efforts for a good cause.

State agencies can raise money by hosting special events or by sending digital donations through E-pledge forms. E-pledge donations allow employees to donate to any charities of their choosing as either a one-time donation or by opting to have donations deducted directly from their paychecks throughout the year. Employees also have the options to opt out and not participate during the campaign.

With the statewide goal of over $300,000, state agencies like the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs (HCA) worked with over 150 nonprofit organizations participating in the 2024 SECC, which runs annually September through the end of October. This year, the chair and captains of the division’s SECC efforts were Social Media Lead Desiree May, Engagement & Collections Manager Meg Hutchins and Architectural Historian Kara Briggs, along with assistance from HCA’s Administrator Tracey Moore, Communications Manager Dana Behling, (former) Administrative Support Specialist Sharon Richey, and HCA’s curation and design team.

The division hosted six activities that were created to raise money for PAWS for People, the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition and La Esperanza.

The activities included:

My Team Day: Staff were encouraged to wear their favorite sports team attire (professional, college or high school teams and more).

Movie Mayhem ‘Lights, Camera, Action’: Staff were invited to enjoy a daytime movie with all the goodies and treats from a movie theater.

Field Day Fun Day: Staff were encouraged to partake in some outdoor fun including a variety of lawn games.

We ALL Scream for ICE CREAM & Riddles: Staff were encouraged to bond over a variety of ice cream options and fun riddles.

PAWS for People DeStress Event: Staff were encouraged to participate in a very relaxing DeStress event with three special pups! Staff had the opportunity to pet, relax and play with the puppies and get to know more about the PAWS for People organization.

Halloween Costume Day: Staff were encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes or get creative and dress as their favorite historical figures for the day!

Between these six special events and other donations, HCA raised over $1,335. This annual fundraiser campaign gave staff the opportunity to raise money for a good cause but also enjoy new memories with staff and participate in morale-boosting activities.
