New display to debut at The Old State House
By Elizabeth Coulter, curator of collections for the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs
The Old State House in Dover has a new display opening soon that delves into the legislative process in Delaware through objects recently accessioned into the historic collection, including Senator Marie Pinkney’s inauguration suit.
The Old State House was originally the first permanent capitol building in 1791 before the larger capitol building, Legislative Hall, was established in 1933. Over time, these spaces witnessed new laws enacted by the Delaware General Assembly that impact the lives of Delawareans. These laws greatly depend on the people elected to office who accept the responsibility and privilege of representing the interests of Delawareans.
To explore this history and highlights from the division’s Historic Collection on view at the Old State House, visit the museum during public hours this fall. Tours of the museum are available on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Admission is free.
