Zwaanendael Museum to host a variety of "Queen's Day" activities
(Lewes, Delaware - April 18, 2007) Celebrated in the Netherlands on April 30, Koninginnedag is a Dutch national holiday which honors the nation's 200 year old monarchy. The Zwaanendael Museum's celebratory programs, being held April 28-30, will include displays that provide information about Queen Beatrix and the sequence of forceful queens who reigned in the Netherlands throughout the 20th century to the present (Queen Wilhelmina, 1898-1948; Queen Juliana, 1948-1980; and Queen Beatrix, 1980-present).
Additional activities will include screenings of "The Netherlands and the House of Orange," a 19-minute video highlighting the history of the Dutch monarchy; and an opportunity to experience the Zwaanendael Museum's beds of blooming tulips-a flower that has long been associated with the Netherlands and its people. On Saturday, April 28, "Queen's Day at Zwaanendael" will feature children's programs including outdoor races, games, crafts, and foreign language activities. Visitors are encouraged to wear orange in honor of the House of Orange, the Dutch royal dynasty.
