"A Child's Winter Season" to take place at Lewes' Zwaanendael Museum
November 29 and December 1, 2007


(Dover, Delaware - November 9, 2007) On November 29 and December 1, 2007, the Zwaanendael Museum in Lewes, Delaware will present the program "A Child's Winter Season" which will showcase how the people of Lewes and of Delaware have historically entertained themselves during the winter season. Traditional winter pastimes that will be explored include a Civil War-era parlor game, Colonial toys, ice skating, a sailor's game of chance, dancing, and ice fishing. Drinks and special treats will be served as visitors enjoy the museum's seasonal decorations.

In addition to the above-mentioned activities, the November 29th program, held in conjunction with the Lewes Chamber of Commerce's Hospitality Night event, will include a live performance of Colonial folk music.

The December 1st program, held in conjunction with the Lewes Historical Society's 34th Annual Christmas Tour of Lewes, will be enhanced by demonstrations on seasonal home-decoration by Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs' horticulturalist Christine King.

The Zwaanendael Museum is one of eight museums administered by the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs (HCA), an agency of the State of Delaware. HCA enhances Delaware's quality of life by preserving the state's unique historical heritage, fostering community stability and economic vitality, and providing educational programs and assistance to the general public on Delaware history and heritage. In addition to its museums, HCA operates two conference centers and manages over thirty historic properties across Delaware. Funding for HCA's museums, programs, and services is provided by annual appropriations from the Delaware General Assembly, revenue from HCA's History Stores, and grants from the National Park Service, a federal agency.
